Two days into the marvellous wine school of Southern Italy. We have tasted a few very interesting wines
Negroamaro from Puglia is a lovely deep black wine with distinctive flavours. We had it with rabbit casserole with vincotta sauce. We also tried a sparkling pink as an aperatif.
Verdeca is a lighter style white wine variety. The wines we tried were all refreshingand suitable for the steamed fish with sage.
Susumaniello is an ancient variety rescued from extinction less than a decade ago by some old codger who had a few vines in his back yard near Brindisi. The wines are red and flavoursome in the Sagrantino or Tempranillo mold. You will hear lots more about this variety even though at the moment only a few wineries are producing it.
Last night we had a moscato di Pantelleria, made from Zibibbo on the small island of Pantelleria SW of Sicily.
